Abstract: Software asaService(SaaS)isregardedasafavorablesolutiontoenhanceamodernorganization’sIT
performance andcompetitiveness;however,manyorganizationsmaystillbereluctanttointroduceSaaS
solutions mainlybecauseofthetrustconcern—theymayperceivemorerisksthanbenefits.Thispaper
presumes thatanorganizationwillaugmentthetrustofadoptingSaaSsolutionswhenperceivedrisks
decrease and/orperceivedbenefitsincrease.Togaininsightsintothisissue,asolutionframeworkusing
a modifiedDecisionMakingTrialandEvaluationLaboratory(DEMATEL)approachisproposed.Thecore
logic istotreatperceivedbenefitsandperceivedrisksastwodistinctthemessothatavisiblecause–effect
diagram canbedevelopedtofacilitatethedecisionmakers.AcasestudyisconductedonaTaiwanese
company—one oftheworld’sleadingmanufacturersinthenicheandspecializedresistormarkets.The
findings suggestthatthecasecompanyconcernmoreaboutstrategic-orientedbenefitsthaneconomic-
oriented benefitsandmoreaboutsubjectiverisksthantechnicalrisks.Someimplicationsareaddressed
accordingly.
